The goal for today was to get to the Arc de Triomphe, and to check out a theme park they have in the park close by (Bois de Boulogne). There was a long walk between the two, but a pedestrian trail linked the two via a large grassy and slightly wooded median.

Arc de Triomphe

This tunnel is a passenger corridor that links the Arc de Triomphe with the surrounding roads. The arc is situated in the middle of a large traffic circle. Given how fast people take the traffic circle and how many vehicles are on it (including several busses) I’d say that the tunnel saves a lot of lives! I was watching traffic for a couple of minutes and would see a near accident every 20 seconds! Of course the French are quite used to traffic circles so I assume they see some safety in all that chaos.

The tunnel has a really nice echo to it as it’s not too long. An amplifier of sorts perfect for street musicians such as this to maximize their impact.

This place is quite big. Much bigger then the relatively mini Arc De Triomphe over by the Louvre.

Returning to Bois de Boulogne

Even the medians between streets have fantastic statues/monuments.

I thought this metro in particular had a lot of style

Jardin d’Acclimatation

This is a friendly theme park with rides, large bird enclosures, peacocks wondering the park, cool historical buildings/etc.

It was a school day so not many people around.

This building is actually for training homing pigeons hundreds of years ago. Here’s the write-up for it.

The bird cages were really well done with lots of unique birds from all over the world.

Other pictures of the park.
