This was a pretty relaxing day. We made our way to the Columbus Monument and then walked around a bit. Our schedule gets busy after this so we took an easy day.
Columbus Monument
Columbus actually didn’t launch from Barcelona on his trip in which he discovered America. However, he met with Spanish royalty on his way back to Barcelona. It’s suggested in one of the panels that he brought American Indians back to show around.
I spent a couple of minutes imagining how strange of a life those few Indians must have led. They were probably paraded around like trophies. Where these people shocked by medieval Spain? Did any of them eventually head back? Are their lines still represented in the DNA of Spain? I hoped they lived good lives. They probably lived better lives than their descendants did in the USA…

A Walk Along the Harbor

There’s an aquarium along the harbor. We didn’t get a chance to visit it, but it had this cool box hanging from the ceiling out front. The box would show videos of jellyfish swimming, and other things. I was curious as to how it worked, but had an idea that it was actually spinning led light strips. To test this I modified the exposure and iso of my phone camera, and voilà the spinning light strips magically appeared (below image) 🙂
