What an amazing place! It really takes AT LEAST 2 days. We finished seeing over 90% of the Louvre after our second day which happened a about a week later than this. Lots of pictures today! I’ve organized this into various sections just based on what makes sense. Click on the images to see the fullsized image.
From a business perspective the Louvre is a great idea. Take a huge very old fort that has no military value anymore, and load it with art to attract tourism. That’s how to convert a fort with no practicle value and probably significant maintenance costs, into a self funding public works project that allows great regional/world artists, artifacts dealers, etc the chance to display their works for profit!
This is one of the two big outdoor (with glass canopy) display areas for statues. Really fantastic stuff!
Captured a little bit of the “god rays” from the sun coming through the canopy.
The modern additions are a stage for fantastic architecture. They did a great job turning a dark medieval (or even earlier) fortress into a tourism mecca.
Very cool elevator.
[Technical Note: From here I’ll start to organize the images into categories that are pretty random but roughly chronological for each group. Where I have something to say I’ll load my comment into the caption for the image. Select images are shown individually with larger captions. Click on the images to see the fullsized picture. I’ve further sorted the images in each section by image orientation because the layouts work better that way in the site. I also marked the images that I particularly like as “:like:” ]
K got into the Mona Lisa Moshpit. Very impressed! She gets a bit claustrophobic. K said that Mona was looking at her (which many people say)! I decided to stay out of that mess and monitor the frenzied situation. Rockers would sell their souls for this much admiration LOL!
Selfie with kids you just hung. Life was no joke back then!!! I’m not sure that the next generations really understand what life used to be like back then. I listened to a podcast that tried to explain ancient life to modern people. They mentioned that by any measure ancient life was ALL about cults. Everyone relied on their cults to survive (including not be killed)! The extent of the cult influence was unbelievable by modern standards. If you got expelled from your cult your life was basically in jeopardy in ALL ways. To another cult a banished individual was another enemy against them competing for food while being completely exposed and hopeless.
Lovely color change between rooms. This guy looks like a real person! There were hundreds of busts. This one is one of the best IMO :like: Most of the hundred or so rooms here are this large and this ornate. The short side of this massive building. It’s only really crowded at certain points. This is very close to the entry for one of the wings of the building.:like:YAAT – Yet Another Amazing Thing. This place really desensitizes you with its magnificence around every corner. Seems like this scene would make for a cool videogame. :like:Half of a large hallway. They don’t shy away from big works of art.Yup, that’s probably what being a king, and not being a king was like. :like:I love the gothic art. The colors are so distorted in a really disturbing way. Their enemies must have feared them. :like:Close-up of average crown molding in The Louvre. The lighting is pretty bad, but AI could take care of it if I ever want to clean it up.
Galerie d’Apollon
This was the most amazing room in The Louvre. This room houses the French crown jewels among other priceless items.
Those stones are probably REAL!Bling Bling!
Onto the rest of the museum
The roof really draws your attention. The dark side is present too.:like:See you in a couple months Venice! :like::like:The other outdoor statue garden.Fun with photographing windows.Even the little doggies helped out! Bet dogs were really tough back then :like:You’re looking at about 1/10th of The Louvre. It goes underground as well.Note how colorful the tablets were. I wonder if most of the other tablets just lost their color over time. That deep blue is a color I wouldn’t have associated with Egyptian art. Really nice piece.I like this guy. Not sure he’d like me but he looks like a lot of fun. :like:Beautiful colors :like:I hate when that happens! That’s what happens when you get rid of regulations. The paperwork is in general there for you, not for the rich and powerful.Great colors. I wonder if this has been restored. Otherwise this painter really had the archival colors figured out.I bet this guy was funny. :like:Gravediggers. Lots of grave robbers given that Paris is almost 1000 years old. This was the good kind of grave robbers. Think Indiana Jones. Looks a little like Macron if you ask me.Some timepiece/celestial thing. Very intricate.Look on YouTube for people fighting in armor. You’ll wish you had this in certain situations! The Louvre is basically 4 floors. But, look how big the floors are!Yeah, I could see how that could be a problem LOL. Sadly there was probably a reason they put that sign up!K having fun. :like:K having fun again. :like:Yeah they don’t shy away from the big stuff here.
More Ancient Stuff
This thing is surprisingly old.:like:These are actually small carvings they put in grave sites to trick the spectres of the after life into thinking that these are the dead person. Wishful thinking???Note the beautiful colors :like:This is actually a “Louvre” in the Middle East. It’s massive as well. Would be fun to check that out someday.I bet Egypt wants all this stuff back. Some really great stuff here.Look how modern this woman looks. This was probably 2 thousand years ago!Must’ve been pretty uncomfortable to wear all this stuff (assuming that’s a regular person under there).Nice colors.A great deep blue color. These are fragments from a tablet with the same inscription as the Rosetta Stone. It had the same ancient purpose. The ancient fort underneath The Louvre. Often times they build over the old stuff, but keep it usable as a basement.Glad I don’t have to deal with this guy. I don’t think my jokes would get me too far. This thing is REALLY old. Like maybe even 15K years old!
The Louvre at night
Little brightly colored electric vehicles stand by for tourists at the end of the night.Good times. But a bit tired.
