Paris Day 16

Paris Day 16 (Sept 18th) was a recovery day. We walked around, probably washed our laundry and got ready for our overnight trip to Versailles the next day.

As a side note, here’s my Paris Metro photo. Note how innocent I look LOL (in case the French fuzz has it out for me).

Paris Day 17 – Versailles Day 1

K holding a bike helmet that looks like a heart. Gotta be good luck.
Not as big as The Louvre. But pretty close!

The Petit Trianon

This place was a place for the highest nobles to get away from the mass of nobility that constantly attended the Palace of Versailles. I read that King Louis the XIV would often have 10,000 nobles in the area. French nobles accounted for about 5% of the French population. What a stroke of luck to be part of that lot (especially in the Middle Ages)! The Petit Trianon is the step-down palace from the step-down palace known as the Grand Trianon (next door).

Grotte de Marie-Antoinette

Marie-Antoinette wanted a lighthouse on her lake. Looks great at least.

Marie-Antoinette wanted to live on something other then a noble manor. She commissioned an architect to make this happen. He did a great job and created a beautiful little farming village.

The Grand Trianon

Louise XIV actually built this place to get away from the main Palace (about a mile away). Napoleon later lived in it.

Bike Trip Through Parc de Versailles

We spent the rest of the afternoon into the late evening biking around the huge park and lake.
