Sainte Chapelle Cathedral (exterior only)

We’ll be heading in there next week, so more pictures to come. Saint Chapelle is housed within the Palais de la CitΓ© (gates above). It was the home (or some such) for the royalty of France at one point. We’ve got a tour for that coming up as well.

The Seine River was instrumental in the early development of Paris. It provided seasonal water for machines such as grinders in graineries and even jack-hammers (my understanding anyways). I imagine that it provided water as well, and I know that it provided fish. It used to dry out during part of the year.

Notre Dame Cathedral

Grandfather crusto. Looking into his eyes you realize that this guy means BUSINESS! I think he was the original patriarch of the Holy Roman Empire! And, those guys standing next to him with weapons are there to make sure his opinion is heard loud and clear!

K lovin this place πŸ™‚

The central hall of Notre Dame burnt down about 5 years ago. Still have a lot of construction going on. They’re building back better is several ways, including cleaning up the artwork that was damaged and had faded colors.

The weather has definitely been on our side for this trip :sun:

I think these are called “flying buttresses”. They give the central hall more rigidity so they can add more windows to the cathedral. In future cathedrals they were able to shrink these down. But, they really add to the gothic feel.

We just toured around the cathedral today. Will post more images of the inside soon.

We walked all over Paris today but will break this post into multiple parts to improve loading times.
